We Made National News

The evacuation of 43 of our long term care residents at the Mayers Burney Annex has received a lot of attention.

An amazing disaster team facilitated a smooth transfer when the facility was advised to evacuate the residents.

What you won't read in any of these news reports is about the amazing compassion and love that led the way. The staff at MMHD is beyond compare. The RN's, LVN's and CNA's are more than clinical caregivers to these patients...they are like friends and family and you could see that each step of the process.

Many of the staff members were from Burney and had their own homes and families to consider, but they put the safety and care of the residents of the skilled nursing facility before anything else.

Staff members from all departments played a significant role in this huge endeavor.

No one ever wants to be awake and working for 24 plus hours, but it was clear that those on the team would not want to be anywhere else.

Thank you one and all for your dedication, compassion and willingness to keep these residents safe.

In the ugliness of the smoky sky comes grace and unity all to protect the innocent!! So proud to say I work at Mayers Memorial Hospital!! The last 2 4 - hours were filled with such emotion but it never shook us coming together!! You are all servants and should be proud!! So blessed to call you my friends!!!!  - Picture and statement by Theresa Overton, RN
