The FLU! Most flu activity peaks in the United States during the months of December, January and February. Although it can begin as early as October and last until May.
How do you know if you have the flu?
- cough
- sore throat
- runny or stuffy nose
- body aches
- headache
- chills
- fatigue
- fever (not always)
- vomiting and diarrhea (sometimes)
- stay home and avoid contact with others
- get plenty of rest
- drink plenty of water and clear liquids
- treat symptoms
- high risk patients should consult physician
- be aware of emergency signs of the flu
- trouble breathing
- bluish skin color
- dehydration
- no interaction - trouble waking up
- fever with rash
- symptoms subside - then return with a fever and a bad cough
- pain or pressure in chest or abdomen
- sudden dizziness
- confusion
- severe or persistent vomiting
The flu is thought to spread mainly from person to person through droplets made when people with the flu cough, sneeze or talk. It can also me spread by touching something with the flu virus and then touching the eyes, mouth or nose.
People infected with the flu may be able to infect other 1 day before their symptoms develop and 5-7 days after becoming sick.
Steps for Prevention
- get your flu vaccine
- avoid contact with sick people
- cover your nose and mouth when you cough and sneeze...WASH your hands!
- WASH often and thoroughly with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if a wash area is not available
- avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose
- clean and disinfect surfaces and objects regularly
- get plenty of rest and eat well
